The Barangaroo Women's Network in conjunction with HSBC ASCEND invite you to a panel discussion on the importance of Embracing Mental Health Diversity in the Workplace. Hear from one of Australia’s leading female entrepreneurs and mental health diversity champions, Dr Catriona Wallace, on why this is such an important topic and how encouraging open dialogue around mental health diversity has been instrumental to the growth and success of her business. Dr. Catriona will be paired off with former Lawyer turned University Lecturer and endurance athlete Rod Smith. Rod smith who is a 10 time iron man and 2 time ultraman triathlete, who will share how he personally has overcome mental health challenges throughout his high profile career and why his focus now is to encourage others to participate in life, believe in themselves and give things a go with a view to overcoming anxiety, depression and building self esteem.


For further information on the panelists, please see their bios below: Dr Catriona Wallace: CEO and Founder www.Flamingo.ai  Dr. Catriona is an established and proven entrepreneur with a PhD in Organisational Behaviour: Human Technology Interaction.  As a business leader and Ai strategy specialist, Catriona has been recognised in the 100 Most Influential Women in Australia – Business & Entrepreneur (2018); Top Woman in Finance Awards (2018); and the Australian Government’s Advance Australia Innovation and Technology Awards (2017) for expats working abroad. John Roderick “Shrek” Smith –  former Lawyer turned University Lecturer and Ultra Athlete Rod had a 23 year career as a lawyer and ran his own legal practice for 19 of those. He returned to University in 2012 and did an MBA Masters of Research (specialising in mergers and consideration of culture at the due diligence phase on cross border deals), Post Grad certificate in Applied Finance, and enrolled in a PhD programme at Macquarie University continuing his studies in aspects of mergers and focussing on ethics.  He teaches at UTS, Macquarie University, Sydney University and the Australian Institute of Management.

Rod has completed 10 ironman triathlons and 2 ultraman triathlons (a 3 day event which includes 10km swim, 421km bike and a 84.3km run). He now focusses primarily on swimming, completing the Manhattan Island swim in 2017, attempting the Catalina Island swim to Los Angeles in 2017, and English Channel swim in July 2018.  He is the only person in the World as far as we know to have completed the Manhattan Island swim (which is a circumnavigation of the Island) and an ultraman triathlon. Rod also helped set up Tour de Kids bike ride which went on to raise over $7.5 million for charities (primarily Starlight Foundation) from 2001 to 2017.  He has been involved in charities either setting up or assisting in the running of events which have raised funds approaching $50M for various charitable causes.

His focus now is to encourage others to participate in life, believe in themselves and give things a go with a view to overcoming anxiety, depression and building self esteem.
