If you are looking at enrolling into either KKB345 or KKB346 for Semester 1 2018, an exciting new project opportunity is now open for applications. In this CI Project you will work with an indigenous community partner in order to design and produce a fashion collection to show on the runway as part of the 2018 Cairns Indigenous Art Fair’s fashion performance. The project will be run in collaboration with the Hopevale Arts and Cultural Centre, which is a prominent Indigenous Art Centre from Far North Queensland, and will also be supported by industry and indigenous mentor Grace Lillian Lee. You will respond to a design brief posed by Hopevale, to develop their range of screen printed textiles into a cohesive fashion collection and its associated support materials.

Which may include branding development, marketing and social media plans, photoshoots, production planning and management. You will digitally connect with the Hopevale community, through video conferencing to develop and realise the design brief. The project will culminate in a collaboratively designed collection of garments that will be showcased at the annual fashion performance at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, in July of 2018. Particular assessment outcomes and roles will be individually negotiated with each student. Creative outcomes you might achieve include: the collaborative design and realisation of a fashion collection; development of practical skills and knowledge of garment construction and pattern cutting; the graphic design and development of fashion specific branding; the design and development of a website; the planning and managing of a fashion production schedule and budget; the development of fashion specific marketing strategies, including social media; and the styling and direction of a fashion photoshoot; the documentation of the ‘behind-the-scenes’ process of the project.

This Project offers experience in industry / professional fashion contexts, while also building students understanding of community engagement, Indigenous cultural practices and collaborative design practices. To apply for this project, you must: a) have completed 72 credit points of K-coded or D-coded units; b) have a unit option available on your study plan to enrol in either KKB345 or KKB346 for Semester 1 2018; and c) be studying either Fashion, Interactive and Visual Design or Industrial Design as a major study area; d) be studying a major study area in at least one of the following disciplines: -Fashion -Interactive and Visual Design -Industrial Design If you meet the above criteria and are interested in applying for this project, you can read the application details available on QUT InPlace, under Opportunities > Projects APPLICATION CLOSING DATE: 11:59pm on Friday 26 January, 2018 If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact the project supervisor Lauren Solomon and Kiara Bulley ([email protected] or [email protected]) or the CI WIL team ([email protected]).
