For the 5th edition of Live At The Lodge we're heading out to the desert were things are sparse, gritty and the nights last forever. We'll be launching Johnny Cyrus and His Band of Ghosts. debut album as well as pulling The Francis Wolves out of album #2 writing hibernation to break the spell of jive canyon's hypnotic folk-jazz meanderings. FREE ENTRY • Doors at 7pm ----------------------------------------------------------------- Johnny Cyrus and His Band of Ghosts. is a loose association of like minded musicians specialising in what they can only call "Cowboy Drone" - Dark Americana played by Shoegazers with a strong focus on Drone (repetition), Minimalism, Improvisation and Entering Trance State. There is a very Ambient feel. This is natural since the band prefers to focus on atmosphere in preference to music. ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Francis Wolves are an 8-piece instrumental funk juggernaut from Brisbane, Australia. It’s true, The FW’s ain’t your typical suit wearing funk band: their style is a melting pot of genres, delivered via an ‘all in’ fuzzed out wall-of-sound. Ferocious horns and a brooding rhythm section, matched by ominous organ and infectious congas will transport you to a Sergio Leone film set by way of the dance-floors of Africa. The Francis Wolves’ debut album graciously tips its hat to The Budos Band, Fela Kuti, The Stooges, Dick Dale and even The B-52’s. Producer Donovan Miller (FOREVR/No Anchor) captured the raw sounds of The FW’s in the studio, producing 33 tight minutes of grimy, sweat-inducing grooves that will leave you loose and wanting more. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Soundtrack music for an abstract world.. jive canyon insists the most important part of playing is Listening... and although the music they create stems from the free activity of rigorous & adventuring minds... When the tape starts rolling, or the curtain goes up, it’s time to take the thinkin' caps off and simply be One Big Ear... Having played select Venues (junk bar, woolly mammoth, the haunt, beetle bar, common house, milk factory, menagerie) and various House Shows, jive canyon has developed a live set built upon hypnotic, rhythmic explorations that transfigure the more potent and primitive elements of jazz, folk, blues, rock’n’roll & minimalism.

I love that poster design.

Sounds like an amazing night. I'll try to be there.
