Join us for One Billion Rising: Solidarity Brisbane, a global mass action to end violence against women. International Women's Day weekend Sunday 11 March, at the Queen St Mall, stage Dance participation from 12 - 12.30pm This is your chance to speak out, bring awareness to and move against domestic violence. The campaign asks people to join in public dance celebrations of strength and resistance, dancing together to raise awareness of the prevalence of this violence and celebrating collective effort to end it. By dancing we focus on the importance of women taking ownership of their own bodies. How to get involved? 1. Learn the dance beforehand, at Common People Dance project as part of Vulcana's summer program of workshops. You can simply learn parts of the dance at the event and join in on the day. 3. You can listen to Belinda Cox from Brisbane Domestic Violence Service explain why this action is so urgent 4. You can come along and cheer the dancers Whichever it is that suits you, add your body and your voice to the demand to end this violence against women. This event is coordinated by Vulcana Women's Circus, WaW Dance and NIA Australia. Vulcana Women’s Circus works with the circus traditions of inclusiveness, strength, excitement and daring, to transform and empower individuals and communities through the teaching and performance of contemporary circus. WaW Dance offers mature women a safe place to come together and experience the joy of dance and celebrate healthy ageing in the 21st Century.

Nia Australia's Brisbane community also invites you to be part of the One Billion Rising Revolution* to end violence against women & girls. Join them on Sunday afternoon 14 February, at Jagera Arts Centre South Brisbane from 3.30 - 5.30pm, to move together and raise money for Brisbane Domestic Violence Service.
